Pastor Potts' Biography

Dr. James Ervin Potts is a 1975 graduate of Morehouse College of Atlanta, GA, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Religion. He received his Master’s of Divinity Degree in Church Administration and the Parish Ministry at the Interdenominational Theological Center, Atlanta, GA in 1978. He received his Doctorate of Ministry degree from Jacksonville Theological Seminary of Jacksonville, FL in 2006.
Dr. Potts was licensed to preach on August 31, 1970 at Jehovah Baptist Church, Sumter, SC. He was ordained by the Sumter Baptist Association, Sumter, SC on August 9, 1971. Dr. Potts was an associate to Dr. Melvin H. Watson at Liberty Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA for 13 years. Currently he is pastor of Mt. Prospect Baptist Church in Villa Rica, GA, where he has served God faithfully for 33 years. He is actively involved in many church and civic organizations. He was the Moderator of the Friendship Association (1992–2014). 

He was the Western Regional Vice-President of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of GA (2005-2014); currently he serves as Vice-President at Large of the General Missionary Baptist Convention of GA (2014-Present). He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Thomas Dorsey Birthplace Foundation, Villa Rica, GA. He is also a member of the Chaplain’s Association, Villa Rica, GA.
Dr. Potts is married to Sabrenia Brunson, and they give God the praise for 41 years of marriage. They have two sons, Jason and Justin.
